A Parade! For The Phillipines!

Happy Independence Day! On this day in 1947, we The United States gave them The Phillipines their independence.

How nice. After imperialist bullshit for 50 years we let them "be free".

Including all kinds of nasty Gestapo-light tactics. #FillipinoLivesMatter was the hastag in the early 1900's.

After we took our boots off their ground in 1947 our hand was still on their government. Making sure they weren't too liberal. Ala communists. Or socialist. Or not welcoming enough to American Super Big Business.

Protecting their fledgling democracy from dictatorial red invasion was a good goal but we over did it. Too heavy handed and too unaccepting of leftist ideas.

Freedom means don't tell them what to do. Even subtly. But our Roosevelt'ian Doctrine after The Spanish American War which he started almost singlehandedly, said we were better than brown'ish people and should be their political parents and cops and all garbage!

Haiti did the right thing and rid itself of the French earlier. Unfortunately the Phillipines has many islands and therefore a country with a big navy can control it fairly easily. At least from the coast out.

Here's to freedom! Belated as it was. "Go The Phillipines!" But not at the Olympics I am still rooting for the USA.
