FOR THEIR CONVENIENCE.
I see and hear it constantly and it bothers me.
Ambulances sometimes do it too.
The fire trucks rarely drive to the deli so I assume it's a real dangerous emergency when I hear their sirens.
BUT THE NYPD FAKE IT OFTEN.
Here's how to tell if a cop is faking the emergency:
If they only use the lights and siren to go through the traffic light and then turn them off down the block.
NO.
A real emergency, they need to go at max speed the whole way and will leave them on the whole way.
But when they do it one intersection at a time, they just want to skip the red light.
