Because we athletic boys don't want to fuck fat girls.
I imagine that's annoying. To worry about it.
Smart people know to aim a goal well beyond the true goal. So instead of aiming for "don't be fat" smart women aim for the opposite: "be thin".
"Thin" is a destination - "not fat" is a state.
So girls who become "anorexic", yet another label from another asshole doctorman, want to be thin.
Except those girls, are told "you're too thin".
Smart people don't like being told I'm not smart. We intellectually rebel when others imply we don't know what the fuck we're doing.
We dig in.
So if you were told you're anorexic, you were really being told "good job. You did what we society demand of you future woman!" by some asshole who wasn't thinking about that when making their judgment.
You figured out how to survive in unwild America without being fat. Really hard to do. Seriously. Eating is enjoyable.
And you got took shit about it.
So to stand your ground you did it extra. Made yourself as thin as you could tolerate.
To show them it was your goddamn life and if you wanted to ride the line of starvation, it was your right!
